Save A Lot Akron

Having successfully completed two rehabilitation projects in Cleveland for Save A Lot, the company contacted CenterMark Development to explore the feasibility of rehabilitating a former Kroger grocery building in the City of Akron.  The 1960s-era building, vacant for decades, was owned by the City of Akron and deemed to be a critical piece of the City’s redevelopment plans for the Summit Lake neighborhood, just south of the central business district.  CenterMark acquired the building from the City in August of 2014.  Substantial improvements were made over the next six months and Save A Lot opened to the public in January of 2015, ending a decades-long grocery void in the neighborhood.  Beyond the immediate residents, the store will serve the thousands of customers, vendors and employees who will soon be visiting the consolidated Summit County offices at the storied Firestone headquarters building which is under redevelopment and another example of the resurgence of Akron’s Lower Downtown (LoDo).
